We booked our cruise on a 6a guar with carnival. Today we found out our cabin number which is E168. I looked it up on the deck plans on the carnival website. Am I correct in assuming that we were upgraded to a 6d on the Riviera deck?

You didn't mention on which ship you booked, but if your cabin number is E168, it's likely to be a 6D on Empress Deck not Riviera Deck.

ok, so i said that wrong, sorry. What I meant to say we booked a 6a guar on a 7 day cruise on elation. Saw our cabin number, and it says E168. So were we upraded from a 6a to a 6d? That's what I meant to ask

Yes, you got an upgrade to a 6D cabin. A category 6A is on Riviera Deck, and your assigned cabin is three decks higher on Emerald Deck. The cabins are pretty much the same, but your assigned cabin is in a better location.
