If you go on a fishing excursion and catch fish do you have to release them again or do you bring them back to the ship? Sounds like a stupid question when I type it out, but does anybody know?

No bringing back to the ship. They will send them to you.

Depends on the ship. I saw someone on the Spirit in Alaska bring aboard fish for the chief to prepare. Alaska charters has a way they can get your fish sent to your home on the day you request. Hawaii does not. Watch out for the scams on the charter boats (having the fish mounted). Do NOT fall for this. If you want a replica made all you need are some photos and measurements. In Cozumel, I took my catch to
"The Waffle House". They cooked it for us.

Big Papa, Thanks for the info. I want to try fishing sometime too. I just want to catch a Blue Marlin, get my pic taken and then let it go

In Cozumel many folks give the catch to the crew.

For Alaska cruises (Salmon fishing), if you want to keep your catch, you can pay to have it "prepared" and shipped to you. You can not bring them back to the ship. Not sure how the arrangements were made for the post above about the chief preparing a catch.

The cost of doing this was more that just stopping in the port and having commerically caught Salmon shipped to you.

For the Caribbean, its the same thing, you can have a big fish shipped to you (can't bring it back on board with you) but the costs are high.
LHP has it correct. The crew will more than be willing to take it from you as they can turn around and sell your catch on the dock and make some extra money. But catch and release is a good alternative too.

an old friend of mine gave her Crab's to the crew.
She didnt want to lug them all the way to the ship and be turned back.

Very funny. My daughter went crab fishing when on the Spirit in Alsaka. They recorded the catch for some enviornmental record and released them. Then they stopped at a crab house and had a crab dinner.

So far it seems that a fishing excursion is just for the fun of fishing. Thanks all
