My daughter (on the Triumph) just told us that the Captains party no longer serves or'derves, still has free drinks. Who was it... RCL? that was making an extra charge in main dinning for a steak. Carnival reduced the size of the Stage band last year, are talking about reducing the size of the entertainment staff. Where will it all end? A one man band and a sandwich shop for dinner, carry on your own luggage, change your own linens?
RCL tested the extra-fee steak on two ships. Not sure if it is still happening.
Maybe they will eventually just roll a couple kegs of Old Milwaukee into the lounge and the Captain can hand out plastic cups of beer and a handful of Chex Mix, while the CD reminisces about the good old days with Kathie Lee singing the theme song and running into Willard Scott at dinner.
Guess we can all start auditioning for the new entertainment venue. The requirements are to be able to play 4 instruments at once, sing and dance while playing, and do a commedy routine with a magic act for the encore. Of course, limited availability of positions, only 1 per ship I sure hope the cruise lines will hang in there through these tough times. It would be a crying shame to go back to only one or two lines being able to charge whatever they want. Hmmmm....sorta like the airlines.
CruiseDad, Thanks for posting the news. I wonder why they would cut back on something so insignificant. I know they sure have cut back on the complimentary cabin gifts. I haven't received a Bon Voyage cabin decoration and champagne the last two years. At the same time they seem to be more generous with giving drinks to Ocean Player's Club members. Maybe they are trying to get us liquored up so we'll lose more money.
Maybe the cruise line can save money on the fuel and not cut other things. Maybe they can do a 7 day cruise with 7 fun days at port (not at sea). So on July 27, 2009 I will be on a four day Miami (port) cruise, return home July 31 and return to Miami on August to do my 7 day Miami (port) cruise. Vacations may soon be a pool in the back yard and a grill grilling.
Have a safe and fun cruise all!
Right now my husband and kids are wondering why I'm laughing so much. Your post are cracking me up Port cruises were funny but the lifeboat charge cracked me up. Sad thing is it's probably just a matter of time. Have a great night!
Billybuzzy,,,, I'm sure that life boat fee(without vest,, vest will be additional) will be collected before cruise sets sail and then refunded to you if not needed.
Have a safe and fun cruise all! How much is it for the now free room service? Better get ready to go up and get your own food.

I was on Splendor in December and we did not have hors d'oeuvres at the captain's party. However on the Destiny in January we did. Must be a ship by ship thing.
I was on RCCL's Majesty in January and we all had to go to the area by the elevators and root through the pile of luggage to get our own stuff. It did not make a good impression for my first RCCL cruise.
Nothing that would keep me from cruising with them again.
