Lock Baggage?

In the literature I am reading that Carnival wants the "checked" luggage locked, is this correct? Also, will it matter if I bring a travel iron? I had to battle to get an iron last time.

Carnival does ask you to have checked luggage locked, but how are you to lock it after it has been checked? I believe this is more for liability purposes. I never lock my luggage, but use plastic ties. Most bags are checked going on and coming off. Better than having broken locks. I had no problem bringing an iron, a folding travel one. Most items I don't want looked at closely, I put into a couple pairs black socks.
