We're planning on taking a laptop, but not for email. We want to use it to store our pictures off the digital cameras.
Has anyone done this and I would assume there would not be any charge, by the cruise.

Also can you use the ship computer free as long as you didn't go on-line. ex: word to type letter or notes. Thanks

No charge to bring your own laptop. The only computers available onboard are in the internet cafe, They only have internet access, no other software.

Oh yes, your main question.

Yes I have taken a laptop to download pictures. I have found it easier to take several large memory cards though.

We always take our laptop and have no problems. It is nice because we can take a ton of pictures, load them on the laptop and then delete the ones we don't want or like right then and there. No charge for your own.

I'm with Larry on this. Memory cards are so cheap no days, it is not worth the hassle of bringing along a laptop. Mandi... why would you want to waste cruise vacation time sorting through pictures and transferring shots. For $40 you can have a memory card that will hold more pics that you can possibly take in 7 days..

I know...I know...I know...

I'm on vacation & should leave the laptop at home but what can I say?

I take my laptop, phone & camera everywhere...Never leave home w/o them.

This is exactly the question I have been wanting to ask. I plan on buying a laptop soon and using it on my cruise in November. I could imagine using it for editing photos and video. Also, to print photos to share with people onboard (so long as I also bring along a small laptop printer). Or maybe the photo lab onboard could make prints of my edited photos?

Hello everybody,

if you would just like to store your digital pictures without the need to edit them etc., I suggest purchasing an "image tank", which is a small portable device approx. the size of a Nintendo GameBoy. Mine has a 40 GB harddisk - that's good for lots and lots of photos.

We also use our laptop to listen to music on iTunes, and sometimes to watch movies. We almost ALWAYS take it with us! Last cruise, hubby put our pics on there each night and we'd watch them in slideshow format - it was fun to relive the memories! :-D
