Do walkie talkies work on the ship?

In your experience, do walkie talkies work on the ship?
I want to have one and give one to my kids.

Lexy, we have four walkie-talkies. They work great. Agree ahead of time what channel you're going to be on. If there is interference, just move to another channel. Be aware that if you're traveling during a congested time, with many children onboard, you are more likely to encounter "clogged channels". We've spoken many times to strangers on the ship. All in all it's a great way to keep track of your children's whereabouts on the ship. I strongly recommend them.

Carnival has Walkie Talkies for rent, so they certainly must work for them. If you bring your own they should work also but might interfer with the on board channles. I have a set at home that has 22 channels and on rare occasions I get cross talk from someone else and we change to another channel. I don't know the cost to rent, but it is probably on the FAQ section of Carnival.com. I have never brought my own but were I to use it I would rent the one on board.
