Why is the noise from closing doors so bad on the conquest class ships? We have been on the Liberty and The Valor and both times we can hear all the doors close up and down the coridor. We never hear the closing on the smaller ships. And never on the spirit class ships. I notice that the conquest class ships doors do not fit well and there is a vent near the bottom of each door. But anyway I find this very annoying. Is it the ship builder that came up with this design?

Sound needs air to travel and good acoustics to be more noticeable, so all I can conjecture is the layout and materials used in the passageways being the reasons.

I agree with you. We heard more doors closing and generally more ambient noise (people talking, laughing, etc.) coming from the passageways on that class than on our favorite Spirit class.

I would also concur with the observation. I've always noticed more door noise on the Glory than the the Spirit or Fantasy class ships. Well, no one has to worry about me dropping buckets of quarters in the hallway at 2 AM anymore. The machines don't drop quarters anymore unless they are full or something to that effect.

Who decides what materials to use? Is it the ship builder or Carnival? I will really think twice before taking another conquest class ship. The rooms themseles are not bad at all. It is the noise from the hallways.

Thanks Billy for the Dream hallway noise report. In all actuality some of this comes from rude and not too bright people. This guy lives a few doors down from me and is always slamming his door. He must think it is a car door or something.

Yes, hallway noise is a hit or miss thing on any cruise. It really depends on the people around you and how considerate they are. You have the same problem in hotels. If people are loud in the hallways there you hear them too. Some people have no common courtesy.

I agree some people have no manners. But I still think the Spirit class ships are more quiet. Maybe it's the way the beds are arranged that is more quiet.
