Yes, walkie talkie would work and on some ships you can rent them for a fee as well.

Those cup's on board are too small.

If your a smoker a small closeable pocket ash tray helps.

an air freshener would help as well
hang it from the air duct.

question regarding the waterproof plastic "pouches" you can get at dive shops...do you recommend the really narrow one which would hold maybe 2-3 cards or the one that is almost an inch wide that would also hold cash, chapstick, etc?

regarding the pouches depends what you are taking the small one hold a couple of cards and cash

WARNING! These are not the most pleasant things to think about and I may be perceived as a Germ Nut..But lessons learned are not forgotten.

WATER bring all you can, you know something is up when you are having a problem and then you see the crew buying water in port.

Bullfrog Sunscreen! .. If you are going to be in the water! Even if your brand says waterproof and sweatproof the salt water will disintegrate it fast. It is made for water and they have some for kids now.

Mini Igloo Cooler..Is small enough to fit in suitcase with 6 beers and always put another 12 pack in the other suitcase.

CASH..so you can give the Steward a little extra tip when they see and say "I bring Ice"

I also brought:
--extra clothes hangers since I shared my room with 4 kids (I packed the small ones and put my daughter's clothes on them since she's the youngest)
--a highlighter so we could highlight everything in the capers we wanted to do
--I packed a small bottle of every type of headache, cold, cough medicine I could fit in my "bathroom bag" because kids are so unpredictable that they're almost predictable. Two of them wound up with runny noses by the 5th night so I was glad I brought it all And the kids Pepto came in handy from too much ice cream
--Throw away cameras for your kids to take pix of their new friends, I will never allow my kids to take my digital camera!
--One thing I didn't pack this time that I will for sure next time is business cards for my kids with their name, address, phone #, e-mail address and myspace address to pass out to all of the friends they made!
