Let me begin by saying that this was not our first cruise. My wife and I have been on numerous cruises before but mainly with Royal Caribbean and Holland America.
Our overall cruise experience was satisfactory but not to the point where we will cruise with Carnival again. The food and the crew (for the most part) were helpful and courteous. The same goes with the late shows and comedians. Both met our expectations and did a stellar job.
The main issue we had with the Carnival ship was the lack of adult only pool areas. We were informed that the ship had such an area, but the cruise staff did not enforce the rules, and as such there was absolutely no pool areas to relax in. We love children and have one of our own, but with other cruise lines there’s always been a nice pool area for adults to get away from the madness of children.
Additionally, the main pool’s live band has a lot of room for improvement. They played great music, but the sound was very distorted. It seemed as if the band or staff was more interested in having loud music or high volume than good sound.
The other issue we felt needed some attention was breakfast. The omelet station wait time was unacceptable. All mornings at sea the average wait time for such a popular item was well into the 30 to 40 minutes. The ship only had one individual at each station making this normal breakfast item. The same issue occurred with the Sushi station. There was only one man making sushi for an entire ship. Not only was this lone individual responsible for making the sushi, he was also responsible for processing the payment of saki, if purchased. In our opinion, waiting 30 minutes or so, for 3 or 4 pieces of sushi is not a very efficient way to cater to the passengers and a lack of proper service management.
Lastly, we dined in the Paris Dining Room, during open seating in the London Dining Room we experienced a bit of attitude from the dining staff once for breakfast and once during dinner. On other cruise lines, we have never encountered an individual who didn’t seem to want to go above and beyond the call of duty for us. Never!!!!!
In the cruise industry, it’s the details that make the difference, and allows one cruise line to stand above the others. Having experienced different cruise lines, we can both say that Carnival falls a bit short in comparison to its competition. Carnival does offer a great cruise. If the experience you’re looking for is one of extreme casualness, little elegance and limited individuality, maybe Carnival is for you.
As a result we will reserve our next cruise experience with a different line.
