I'm just curious WHY this is the high season. I'm at the stage in life now where I don't have kids so I can cruise in the fall or the spring so I do. And it's PLENLY warm in May. So I'm wondering why do people enjoy cruising in August when the prices are higher (other then the kid thing) and isn't it just miserably hot everywhere?

Cruising is a family experience so anytime children are on vacation it is "high season". That is the primary reason for the high prices. It is not a choice thing, but a matter of necessity.
