We just booked our first cruise as a family to Bahamas(Nassau) for 3 days. We don't go on vacation often so we have to make the most of our stay. Any hints of "can't miss" things and "waste of time and money "things??
I see a few of you have been on fantasy..what did you think?

We're looking at possibly snorkeling, dolphins, pirate museum, Atlantis, Zoo... not all but looking at these things..dolphins look a bit high... there are 5 of us 2 adults and 3 kids ages 15,12,5

Shelby, you will have a great time on the Fantasy, she was re-furbished about a year ago and is in great condition. They have an awesome water slide at the pool that you and your children will enjoy. The Camp Carnival program is a great one also so your kids will have a blast.

As far as excursions, my only advice would be to choose maybe one or two, otherwise you will wear yourself out and not be able to enjoy everything on the ship. The Blue Lagoon is a great excursion. You have a 45 minute boat ride thorugh Nassau Harbor to Blue Lagoon. They have non motorized water sports for rent such as paddleboards, tubes etc. You can lay on the beach and soak up the sun, they also offer snorkling. They offer a full lunch menu and beverages. Then there is a 45 minute boat ride back to the ship. This excursion lasts about 5 hours. It is one of the most popular of Carnival's excursion. Of course if you want an excursion that has a little more party atmosphere you can always do the Yellow Bird Party Boat. It is free flowing rum punch (non alcholic for kids) a private island beach and snorkling offered for a fee. That one lasts about 3 hours, but believe me, the partying is the best part, there is a calypso band on board to keep you entertained.

Both of these excursions are usually in early afternoon, so you would still have time to get off the ship in the morning and explore Nassau, the Pirates Museum, and shop. Just a word of caution, while in Nassau you will be harrassed by some of the street vendors. They will even walk up to you and tell you that they are giving you a free bracelet or necklace, try to put it on you then after you accept it they will ask for a donation. Just tell them NO and walk away, don't even let them try to give it to you because if you accept it they will follow you and keep asking for money. Around the straw market they are really forceful, but just say a firm NO, not interested, and eventually they will leave you alone.

By the time you finsih shoppping and doing one of the excursions, you will be ready to go back to the ship, enjoy it and get ready for dinner.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks. I hadn't looked at the iternary myself..just was going by what hubby said but we just realized we are only in Nassau for one day. (we were thinking 2) So that will limit what our choices are , which could be a good thing. Hubby REALLY wants to do snorkeling. So I'm sure that will be on the list.

Have you gone on your cruise yet? I didn't remember seeing a sail date in your post. We are going on June 23. Let me know what you did and how you liked it!

We are leaving home on the 12th to go spend a few days with friends and Disney in Florida first. We board on June 19th.
Can't wait!

Sounds like we'll be passing like two ships in the night! Thanks for replying. You're the first one to reply out of the three other cruise boards I've registered in. DOesn't seem like many people sail on the Fantasy! We are also going early to stay with friends around Orlando and staying on a couple of days to visit NASA. Have a great trip.

Too funny- we are going to do a day of disney, visit friends, and hit NASA too.Our cruise is booked. I only found one guy on here that is going on our cruise. We had friends try to book after us and couldn't get a cabin.

Hey- What are you going to do in Nassau? We are still trying to decide. maybe Blue Lagoon.

Well, I reeally wanted to go snorkeling, we had done it once before in Cancun. But, the hubby wasn't too much for it since he has a mustache and his mask kept filling full of water!! So, we settled on the Garden, Zoo and city tour. I'm hoping if we get done in time, maybe we can spend some time on a beach somewhere! I read somewhere that you could do the same Blue Lagoon tour by just catching the ferry for about half of Carnival's price. Personally, for our 1st cruise, I'm glad I have everything already booked including our hotel and NASA afterwards.

Well I called Carnival today about the excursions. Our trouble was we have one non swimmer in our group and we really wanted to do snorkeling. I wanted an answer as to if we could all go snorkeling with one non snorkeler in the group but she wasn't much help. to get a ride to Blue lagoon and stay there , with their limited activites and buy your own food PLUS snorkeling it is 45 a person (35 if not snorkeing) That's not TOO bad I guess. Since it is from 11-5 about, that will give us a little time to explore before we go and then we will soend the rest of the day there so that should be our only purchase there... hopefully we can get the kids to wait till we get back to the ship for dinner.
