Gauranteed rooms?

Has anyone out there had a bad experience with
booking a guaranteed room? Is it better to book a certain room or wait to be surprised? We are going with a balcony and from what I can tell, all the levels with balcony rooms are nice. Any comments? suggestions? HELP!!!

Hello dbug; there have been some lengthy discussions on this topic lately. You can find some of them by clicking on "Find" at the top of the page and enter "guaranteed cabins".

But in general, those that do it are happy with what they get, although there have been some that didn't like their surprise.

Many, myself included, would rather book way ahead and know what we are getting. If the price should go down you can get a refund or shipboard credit.

But there are some good deals; and you are right--most cabins in the main catagories are very much the same; it's the deck and location that make the difference. One example I remember was an upgrade from an inside at midship to an ocean view (portholes) all the way forward; the poster didn't consider this an upgrade although it technically was.

I would say try it--see how it goes.

f-mattox, my husband I are trying a guarantee for the first time.

Our guarantee on the Freedom's May 13th sailing is a 6B Oceanview.

I''m hoping there is some sort of upgrade, as I have noticed that SOME of the 6B's at the front of the ship say the twin beds cannot be converted to a King-size!! While it wouldn't spoil my cruise, I would be a bit disappointed.

I think Terri R. and Larry in Miami just showed that the results of booking a "guaranteed catagory" and be mixed.

But you could still give it a try--after all, how bad could it be?
Especially if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in your cabin.

I just got my docs today - going May 3rd on the Miracle. We booked an oceanview guarantee and ended up with a balcony on the "upper" deck. My mother-in-law and niece booked an interior guarantee and ended up on the same floor with an obstructed balcony. We are all pretty happy with this - can they bump us back? The ship appears to be almost sold out.

That is some awesome upgrades, they don't usually do that outside of categories. Good for you. If the cabins are on your docs, they won't change them, unless of very rare circumstance.

I have always selected our room because we have a special needs son and can't use Uppers for him. But that being said, from what I have read, there is not a big danger of being "bumpbed" unless you are in a handicap access room. Then if someone needed that kind of cabin, you would be moved to serve them.

At least that is my understanding.
