Cabin or stateroom...?

Is one or the other the "proper" term for our room on a cruise ship? Or are both correct?

I'm just guessing here, but I would think that, while not interchangable, either would be correct, depending on the context. For example, I've never heard the expression "economy interior stateroom"; and I have never heard "deluxe verandah cabin"; so I have to think it probably depends on the size and quality of the accomodation.
One thing for sure: "room" is just not acceptable.

That was funny. All I can add is the Purser's Desk refers to them as Cabins on Carnival.

And the vessel is a Ship not a Boat
