I took the Freedom in April/May. Quite frankly it's easy to get to Pisa on your own from the Livorno port. Pay $5 for the shuttle into Livorno. Walk one block to the bus (buy your bus ticket at the news agent), take the bus to the train station for the 30-40 minute ride to Pisa. Get off the train and take the bus to the Tower. If you want to walk to the top of the Tower head immediately to the booking office (behind the Tower) as you pay then book a time so you can return later for your walk without having to wait in line. Return to the ship the same way---quick, cheap and easy. For Florence we rented a Hertz car as we got off the ship (no booking). Cost E96 including tax. Shared with another couple. Took about 90 minutes on the drive. Parked near the Market in Florence and walked all around. Doing your tour on your own will save a fortune over what the ship charges.
