Hi Cruise fans, I was wondering if there is a listing of the Carnival Fun Ships by size (I thought I might like to try a larger or really large ship the next time my husband and I cruise alone.) Also, listed by age. Okay, I am shallow, but I do love the new car smell. Is it the same with ships or do they just get better with age. My husband says the Fantasy, my first and second cruise choice, is older and somewhat small. I loved the Fantasy, but I am also open to experience all that is cruising.

The list isn't pretty, but it shows what you want to see. Those with the same or nearly same tonnage are sister ships.

Older and small doesn't mean worse. And tell your husband size doesn't matter!

Good one Dave! And doesn't the tonnage show that The Inspiration, your Cruise-Chat Member Cruise ship is a sister-ship to my Fantasy. I also notice that you are also cruising on Royal Caribbean. I am sure I have read before, but what is your favorite cruise line? And why? As a newbie, I can't imagine loving anything more than Carnival, but I plan to keep my mind open to suggestions. Thanks, you run a great service here.

Yes. There are eight Fantasy-class ships, which are mostly identical although there are some small differences in layout and bars.

I like Carnival and RCI about equally. Carnival hasn't got the market cornered on good service. RCI and the others are just as good in my view. I am concentrating on RCI at present because they have a better loyalty program than does Carnival (which really doesn't have much of one). I am trying to build up my points on RCI to make diamond level in their Crown & Anchor Society so I can get more perks. I am platinum level right now. After next year's Alaska cruise I'll need one more to make diamond level. I may squeeze a 4 day in somewhere to close that gap.

Dave, I know what you mean about the loyalty 'perks'. We became Diamond last year & had great perks when we sailed on Freedom this past April. We are cruising Carnival Ecstasy this Aug. because Royal has stopped doing short cruises out of Galveston. They are bringing Voyager of the Seas into our port next year so we'll probably be on that ship next year. Bump your next Royal cruise up to a Junior suite & you'll not need the 'one more'. suites get a 2 for 1 loyalty cruise reward. We've also got the credit card & have almost earned our free 7 day cruise for 2!

I know about the suite credits. We had just made Platinum last year and so we had a JS cat on the Liberty last month to get the 2 credits. The Alaska cruise is in an Owner's Suite which will take us from our current 7 credits to 9. So, that leaves 1 credit I need to get.

This is the price I pay for spreading my cruise business around to so many lines over the years. A fair amount of cruises but not enough with any one line to make me a VIP!

But getting back to the original thread topic....

Carnival has five classes of ships, with minor variations mostly although the Destiny has one less deck than it's sister ships....a half-deck really. To me the Spirit class is the best design. Lots of room and a nice layout. But the Holiday will always hold a spot in my heart as my favorite Carnival ship.

Dave- Your list forgets the Freedom built 2006 at 110,000 and the Splendor 2007 at 113,300 tons-

I agree with you that newer and bigger is not equal to better. I think the Fantasy class size ships are a great size.. but they need something like that with more balconies.

I wonder how I missed those two ships?

Amazingly, I have never been on a Fantasy class ship so I am really looking forward to finally checking that box off on next year's Cruise-Chat Member Cruise.
