Playa Del Carmen

Does anyone know why carnival stoped going there. And has anyone used the ferry boat between there and cozumel? We are going in Nov and we have been to cozumel so mannnnyyyy times we are thinking of using that ferry to playa del carmen.. Is it safe there? Shopping? and all that good enough to spend the $11.00 ppr and being out on our own instead of a carnival approved activity.

The Fantasy (and then the Elation) still stops at the Calica pier for Playa Del Carmen.

I've not done the ferry.

Have not taken the ferry either, but we loved Playa Del Carmen. Shopping is about the same as Cozumel, but we like the beach area. You can walk up and down the beach easily,which is nice and it was very pretty. Topless is allowed though and we did see that, so if you have little ones, you may not like that.

This is a growing attraction...which may explain the stop.

Hello Tim,

I have taken the ferry a few times, once from a cruise and other times when we stayed in Cozumel for a week and found it to be an effective and safe way to see Playa Del Carmen. I had also had an excursion that used the ferry to get us to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, which if you find history interesting was great
This excursion also included the bus from the ferry to the ruins. I have also stayed in the Playa del Carmen area a few times and found it to
a really nice area and the beaches were incredibly beautiful. You won't be disappointed!

No problems there that I know of. As Dave said they go into what is Called Calica now. That is sort of an industrial port. I know that they have a cement distribution point there. I was there last about 2 years ago and enjoyed it. We went on the Imagination out of Miami at the time.
