Has anyone ever taken a hawaiian cruise from california,Or is there another departure point on the west coast. Did you enjoy it. Or would it be better to fly there and stay on the island. I noticed carnival had some in 2011 but leaving from ensenada, Mexico.I have not found airlines who fly there yet. I have dreamed of going to Hawaii all my life and since it costs so much I want to do it right. Disney is finishing their resort Alani on Ohau in 2011. Cruise or stay there? Anyone got some imput? Thankyou
We've done Carnival Spirit's repositioning cruise last fall - sept/Oct and will do it again this year. Quite happy with it. Fly to Honolulu and cruise the islands and 5 days at sea back to Ensinada and then bus to SanDiego.
We have Carnival arrange flights and feel it is a good deal. its a 12 day cruise. We've done Norwegian twice but like carnival better.
We are sailing on one of the two speciality cruises on the Carnival Spirit to Hawaii. Ours is the April 2012 cruise.
We are sailing from San Diego (no bus trip to Ensenada .... woo hoo)
It is round trip ... 15 days and Carnival is stopping in Ensenada on the last day to take care of the Jones Act requirement....but we embark and debark there in San Diego!!
livetotravel,
The majority of Hawaii cruises from the West coast are re-positioning cruises when the ships are coming or going to/from Alaska. Most of them leave from San Diego or Los Angeles. Occasionally you will see one from Ensenada or Vancouver. NCL America is the only cruise line that offers a 7day round trip cruise sailing right from Oahu. It sails year round in Hawaii. The ship, Pride of America, is registered in the U.S., therefore; it has to have American crew.
Many people take the Pride of America for an immersion cruise to Hawaii. The cruise is more about the destination, and not activities and the experience on the ship.
The Disney Aulani is scheduled to open August 29, 2011 in on Oahu. The introductory rates are $399 per night. You would need to weigh the value of a cruise with all meals included, to the cost of hotel plus meals.
We took a cruise from Ensenada, Mexico to the Hawaiian Islands (Big Island 2-stops, Maui 2days, Kauai, and Oahu 2days) and then flew back from Honolulu. There were four days at sea to start the cruise which gave you plenty of time to relax before hitting the islands. I must say that the bus ride from San Diego, CA to Ensenada was the biggest adventure of the cruise!
