Hi parrothead. Our family's personal favorite beach is Chankanaab Park. Great snorkeling. Clean, beautiful beach. Wait staff walk around the beach serving a variety of fancy drinks. Food is also available at the Park. You may also purchase souveniors here, as well. There are lounge chairs on the beach for your use. We bring the towels from our cabin. The Park is lush with tropical growth and Iguanas are roaming around. The Park will be closed if there are high winds.
As for jeans in the dining room, people were wearing them last month on Pride. One gentleman had on a very dark rinsed "dress" jean with a nicely tailored shirt. He looked very nice. I would not wear ripped jeans. But, I believe, other than formal night and if the jeans are presentable, you're okay.

Ok, here are your options.
Chanhanaab Park - entrance fee $16 per person
(but they do some very good work there)
Everything I have heard (I have not been there) about their food and drink is good. I am not sure if CP offers the rental extras like jet skis, banana boats and parasailing. Definately the best choice for snorkeling.

Paradise Beach - no entrance fee. Lounge chairs, tables and shade are "free" (sorta...because they expect you to eat/drink at least $10 per person) They offer free Internet for checking those messages. There is also an optional wristband for $9 if you want to use their non=motorized toys. They also offer all kinds of things for rent like jet skis, banana boat, parasailing etc. Great food and drink. The cleaniest restrooms and changing rooms I have seen. I have been there 3 times in the last 6 months. Snorkeling comes as part of that $9 wristband option. You just put a deposit down for the equipment and get that back when you return it. But snorkeling off the beach anywhere on the West side is not going to be as good as going off one of the reefs you get to by boat.

San Francisco Beach is right next to Paradise Beach. They charge $8 for a lounge chair. They have ok food and drink. We have only been there once.

Mr. Sanchos has free lounge chairs, tables and shade and also asks that you eat/drink there.
We used to go there all the time before Paradise Beach opened up. Good food and drink.
Their beach is a little more narrow since Wilma but still there. They have a small pool.

All the above listed resorts will be a $12 -15 taxi ride (for up to 4 people) one way.

Have a great cruise!!!

Parrothead: If you are looking for LOTS of activities, I would think Paradise Beach or San Francisco Beach would be the choice. As LHP has mentioned they have such things as the banana boats, some iceberg-looking floating thingie that kids can climb on, kayaks, parasailing, etc.

I have never seen anything (like that) going on but snorkeling and diving at Chankanaab, aside from the Dolphin Encounter. But it IS great for that, if that is the activity you want. And the food is pretty good. I can't vouch for the drinks, because I usually stick to Diet Coke or beer.

Cozumel is one of our favorite places....I don't think you can really go wrong, no matter which you choose!!

Playa Mia is a nice place. They are still rebuilding the shopping area but the beach is great and the open air restaurant and bars are back in full swing. We were there two weeks ago and had a good time. I think it was our 7th or 8th time at this place. It used to be called Playa Sol.

Is that on the "Old Road"? I'm thinking we passed by it a couple of times when we took the old road into town from the Reef Club....

Hmmm.....it was last October and I don't remember it all in as much detail as I'd like. Guess we'll just have to go back soon! *L*

I always liked Chankanaab pre-Wilma because of the snorkeling. We were supposed to try Paradise last Oct. Upon LHP's reccomendation but were late tendering and then it rained. Will defineatly try again this year, as I have a standing offer of a free snorkel trip from the guy that runs the place

If we have the time am going to check out the beach Dave mentioned as well.

Does anybody know the price of the para sailing at Paradise Beach? And do you take a cab there when you get to the pier? I did not see it listed as an excursion through the ship, but everything I have read about it sounds like a good place to go. Oh, and my hubby wants to know if they have hammocks. Thanks bunches! Oh, and IsaldCruz, I live not far over the state line from you in Shallotte. Lived in Conway for 12 years. Born and raised in a small SC town.

Hi dbug, yes you have to take a taxi. But they are the cheapest anywhere. It is per trip not per person. So get as many friends in to split it with.

I am not sure of the hammocks, LHP is the one to ask and she will prolly see this and respond.

Here is a link

http://www.paradise-beach-cozumel.com/

Not raised here, but lived here for 24 years more than half my life on this stretch of sand. My parents live in Conway. I love small SC towns too and get down to the lake at Manning every chance I get

I got lost in Shallotte once trying to make a Sunday beer run to Calabash and the store was closed back during my wild young days
