Carnival Splendor about to sail again!
For those that don't know about it, pop over to John Heald's Blog (John Heald's Blog )and you can see pictures of the Carnival Splendor's repair work. It amazes me that cut a hole in the hull to replace the engine/generator. I assume the ship is designed to allow for that? There would have to be a "hallway" to allow for the generator to be moved in and out through the hole in the first place. Its amazing. John said the coast guard, NTSB and several other agencies have tested and reviewed everything and gave them the green light to sail to long beach tomorrow (the 16th) to start cruising on the 20th as planned. Considering they replaced an engine/200 miles of electric cabling and had to replace most of the carpets and flooring, the 3 months it took do not seem like that much time.
Way to go Carnival. I still can't wait to see the report on the incident and to see what they put into place to prevent it from happening again.
She is underway this very moment. All systems are go.
Wish I was on board to shake John and the Captain's hands. Or in Long Beach to welcome her home.
I believe it took all this time to fix her right. Well, having to special order a specially made engine/generator probably added to the time it took. Not to mention the 200 miles of cables they installed.
