Hang on everyone.. I dont see how these cruiselines will be able to absorb any more.. soon those nasty fuel supplement charges have to be coming back soon ... Oil will hit a $100.00 within the next month and it's only going to get worse.. Thank GOD we bought that popup camper!!
Thinking of going on Miracle March 27th, mainly because of a few ports we haven't been to. Any comments on these posts? We do mainly beach and sightseeing. (Sorry - haven't figured out setup and how to start a new post or thread.)
Grandmag- Click on the button at the top of the main thread list that says "New Thread". Yes its just that simple. The button disappears when you are not in a forum section (like the Carnival Cruises Section) or when you are viewing a post... so it can be confusing.

I hate to see those oil prices continue up... all on speculation. I hope Carnival doesn't reinstate those dreaded fuel surcharges! We leave on May 1st and we are sitting on pins and needles watching to see if any cruise line makes the first move.
It's not only the fuel surcharges...how about the price of airline tickets for those of us that have to fly? The price of gas went up another 10 cents over night here in Wisconsin. Not only that, but Royal Caribbean had raised their prices on cruises. I'm thinking about turning my cruise fund into a new 3D TV fund. I've done enough cruising while it was affordable, but I did more than two cruises a year. I'll probably ween off cruising by doing one every year or two--it'll be hard to kick the habit.

Sonny, I'll believe it when I see it. You know you are probably the biggest cruise addict on the forum. I for one hope you don't slack off too much as your input and advice is always spot on and greatly appreciated.
I'll bet there are some "beards" huddled in a room somewhere eating tofu and discussing this for Carnival. My gut feeling is that they won't reinstate the fuel surcharge during this price spike.
I don't know. I truly believe NCL's fare hike of 10% is to cover the fuel costs. I don't know how long contracts run for fuel. If the cruise lines were able to get a contract when oil was $40/bbl, which it should be, then we might be ok for a while. I fear this is going to tank the economy again. I read an article about the feds being surprised that the social security tax cut didn't stimulate the economy more. Well, my difference is $8/week and my cost of getting to work has increased $10/week so far. If gas keeps going up, that cost will increase more. Right now I'm $2/week in the hole.
I think it will have an impact on cruise pricing in some fashion. Just don't know how it will play out yet. If the air fares go up dramatically then the close to home ports will become more popular. Unfortunately not everyone lives close to a port. We are definitely well above the $70 per barrel threshold of the possibility. I sure hope not as I finally have my cruise paid for and am working on some casino money.
Flying now is not an option anymore,, Fares have hit the roof and soon touch the sky,, IF WE GO on another cruise(seems less likely with economy headed south again) it will have to be leaving Tampa.Port Canaveral.Mobile(high fares there for a 7day) Charelston. New Orleans(less likely) Here from Atlanta all within 8hr drive...I think they will raise the fare of a cruise than fuel supplement.. That really did'nt go over well when they did it.. Like Dwayne we had our cruise PAID off.And then we got a letter from Carnival saying we owed a new balance of $126.00 for fuel!! 3 months after we had paid it off.. Was not happy..Tougher times are coming im afraid.and it going to be hard enough to pay everyday bills then to worry about going on a cruise :"(
