The Glory on March 27th....5 days!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys,

Not really new to crusing, been a RC cruiser about a dozen times but never been on a carnival cruise.
This will be our first trip on the Glory and we have been lookin foward to it for months.
I have a group of newbies comin with us that have never cruised or even been out of Florida for that matter.

We are doing the Eastern Carib. cruise.

Any tips or advice about the ship, embarkation, or any of the ports. We have booked the rainforest excursion in Puerto Rico, but not much else.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if your going on this cruise let me know, maybe we can meet for a drink!!!!! lol:)

Welcome to CruiseReviews!
Welcome to CruiseReviews!

Have sailed on the Carnival Glory several times. She is one of my favorite ships. A little known area of the ship is the Fish 'n Chips restaurant. It is upstairs in the Lido restaurant. The Rain Forest tour is amazing. It takes a little while to get there though, but well worth it.

Welcome Aboard!

Hi 03bowtie, welcome to CruiseReviews:)

Eastern could be St. Thomas, St. Maarten, or a whole bunch more. So I'll go with St. Thomas and St. Maarten. If you want to stay on the island of St. Thomas, Coki Beach and Megan's Bay are the best beaches for ammenities. Sapphire Beach is better for snorkeling, but has a lot of little rocks on the shoreline and not as many ammenities. If you don't mind taking a little trip, Trunk Bay on St. John is totally amazing. You can catch the ferry in Red Hook and Charolette Amalie. Red Hook has a better schedule, though, more reliable. Then you grab a cab and go to Trunk Bay. It used to be about $4/ea. for entrace, but that may have gone up.

St. Maarten, most everyone goes to Orient Beach. It is clothing optional and most of the ones that go for the nonclothed option, shouldn't. Another beach is Maho and that's where the planes seem to land on top of you. The last time we were there, we did an excursion through the ship to the TikiHut. It was a floating dock with drinks/food available, decent snorkeling, and run by a great crew. They'd take you back to town for shopping or back to the ship, whenever you wanted. No set time limits. Of course, you have to be back 1/2 hour before sailing.

I'll second the Fish 'n Chips, it's great. And don't forget to try the chocolate melting cake---mmmmmmmmmmmmmm good!

Bon Voyage!!!

I don't really have anything to add to Penny or Dwayne's ideas on the excursions but I will say that as an experienced RC cruiser, you will find many similarities between Carnival and Royal Caribbean as well as some differences. I'm a big believer in the idea of going on any cruise with an open mind without and just having fun. If you go on this cruise intent on "proving" to yourself that RC is better, I have no doubt you will find something to allow you to make the claim. But if you go knowing that they offer a slightly different "product" and except that, you will have a a lot of fun. I hope you come back after your cruise and give us a full report!

Thanks guys... I am really looking foward to this. Im not going on this to compare it RC, but Im sure I will have my opinions of both. Like I said we are young, and I have found that the RC bunch is typically quite a bit older.

Plus my wife and I are tired of looking over at the Carnival boat at 11 oclock, and watching them party, while the RC boat is dark and completely Dead!!!! lol

I will be sure to give a full report when we return!!!!!

Bon Voyage!

Love the Glory
I cruised on the Glory out of Port Canaveral and her sister ship the Conquest.

The Conquest ships hold about 3100 passengers, but with this being spring,
expect over 3500 to be on board.

The Glory is the "Color" ship and all the lounges and bars are colors.
Kaleiodescope Bar (next to the Casino), Bar Blue, White Heat Dance Club, Ebony Cabaret, and Amber Palace.

Amber Palace is the show lounge. Be sure to catch the Welcome Aboard show the first night. Ebony Cabaret is a large lounge at the rear of the ship, and will feature some of the stand up comedians and Karaoke.

Here is a link to the Fun Times (Daily info paper) for the Glory Easter.
I assure you that at 11pm, you WILL find something to do.
