Default automatic tips
we are cruising this fall with a person who will be in the cabin by themself. they paid the double rate, when they hit the sign and sail for the automatic tips will they hit them for 140.00 or 70.00 on our 7 day cruise.

I can't say for sure.. It's $10 per person per day, so if they did.. I'd march down to the Guest Services desk and have them remove the double tip. Just because they are only one person in a cabin does not mean the wait staff is working twice as hard....If the service warrants it, then they can choose how much "more" to tip. If anything, I'd only be inclined to give the room steward something extra since the cabin is being serviced the same and he can only look forward to a single tip....

I've sailed many times, solo. You have to pay double the fare, but not double port taxes or double tips. Some lines even have singles rates where it's 150%-180%.

It will only be the $10 per person, which would be the $70.

I have done this myself, I had a great single rate on a cabin and did not have to pay the 200% cost (would never have gone on that cruise if I had!). You only pay for single port/taxes&tips. Now, I gave a bit more since I had great service and the steward was actually loosing money on my cabin of 1.
