Hello all. I'm new to this website and I'm loving it! My family, along with the sister n law and mother/father in laws is cruising on the Liberty Ship with Carnival next month! I am getting very excited and nervous. Hope I don't get sea sick!
We are wanting to do some cheap fun events on our stops which are Half Moon Cay, St.Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk.
After reading the many comments I know I want to go on the Ferry at St.Thomas and then over to Trunk Bay. My kids want to go scuba diving or snorkeling. Any suggestions on which would be better?
Thanks for taking the time to respond back.
I'm sure we are going to have a fantastic time!
Hello, kansasmom - Welcome to Cruisereviews! Trunk Bay is beautiful, and a must do thing on one of your cruise vacations. However, getting there is a little pricey if your on some kind of budget. I think one good alternative would be Coco Beach. There you can enjoy a nice beach and do some snorkeling, and it's only a 20 minute cab ride. It's been awhile since I've been there so I don't know the transportation prices.
definately go snorkeling if you're on a budget, you can rent snorkels right at the beach for about 5 bucks and keep the equipment all day. You probably don't even need the fins if you're kids are just going to paddle around. Scuba diving will cost about 100 dollars per person for only an hour and half of that time is instructions! Half moon Cay is also an excellent place to snorkel.
Depends on how long you are in San Juan. The water falls are not close to the city and require an excursion to get there. Many of the itinerary don't get into San Juan until the afternoon and by then its too late to go see them. If you are staying in San Juan and leaving on a cruise that departs from there, then you can go online and book a tour yourself as you may have time.
The distillery can be done and is a standard tour you can do through the ship (or even on your own)

Well that's good. But I'm not sure its enough time. You will arrive at 7AM... by the time customes clears the ship it might be 7:30AM... rent a car... say 45 mins. Getting out of the city and to the rain forest? Might take a hour or two... You would have to have a pretty good plan to do it on your own. Try a private message to "Casanova frankenstein" he lives there and can get you more detailed information and a better sense of how to do this.
If it were me, I'd stick to a ship based tour if available. Some do zip lining and the rain forest and you are guaranteed not to be left behind. It will cost more but the peace of mind of not having to plan it yourself may be worth the extra cost.

You'll be glad you did as Jim recommended. Missing the ship is never fun, and it is always much more expensive to recover from than the difference between a ship's tour and doing it on your own.
