Exciting Itinerary for CCL Spirit

Next year after the Carnival Spirit leaves Alaska she will be working her way to the South Pacific. At the end of September 2012 she will be doing a 17-nt from Hawaii to Tahiti and the Society islands and a stop in Figi. The cruise will end in Sydney, Australia. I've been to Tahiti and I can tell you this is some of the most beautiful waters in the world.

That's quite an itinerary. I love the repositioning cruises.

If only I had the time and money... I'd do that cruise in a heartbeat... They always seem to do these repositioning cruises during the school year when we can't go... someday... once the kids are out of the house...

Taking that much time is more of the issue. When you break down the cost by day it is under $100. Wish I could do it but I'm looking at Ocktoberfest in Munich next year.

Oh its not the price of the cruise itself.. it's the airfare and then the time.. you need the cruise time and then at least 3 days in Australia (let's face it if you are going to be there you should at least take some time to see some of the country) plus the loss of a day in travel. You are looking at 3 weeks of vacation to pull it off.

Very true. Australia is the only continent I have left to see of the seven. I'd like to do a New Zealand/ Australia cruise and then spend some time on land. Great Barrier Reef is a must. The airfare is a big chunk of change.

Once the Carnival Spirit reaches Australia, the cruise itinerary can be found here

Carnival Australia

We do not normally look at Carnival posts because it is not one of our favorite cruise lines (we have been on 12 lines). But this itinerary is, indeed, interesting and got our attention. Keep in mind that if one were to join this cruise in Vancouver and go to Australia it becomes a 29 day cruise of which 17 days are at sea. For ole cruisers like moi, this is our idea of a real cruise. The combination of French Polynesia, Hawaii and Tahiti are great for those who love warm weather cruising in areas with amazing water for swimming, snorkeling or diving. It looks like it would be possible to book a balcony cabin on the entire 29 day itinerary for less then $3500 (probably less if you shop carefully) which is a pretty good deal. We have been on the Spirit and enjoyed the vessel except for the noise associated with its Azipod system. There were certain parts of the main dining room that had such a deafening sound from the motors that it was nearly impossible to carry-on a conversation. We are not sure whether this problem has ever been resolved (its been a few years since we were on the ship).

The CCL Spirit was last in dry dock March 12, 2009 for two weeks. It is scheduled to go into dry dock again January 6, 2012 for two weeks. Information is available on interior changes and enhancements, but not exterior. I would think though that the cruise line uses this time to give the exterior a good overhaul also.
