It is premature to be judging a cruise only hours from it's start. There are several reasons a cruise may be delayed, and having a cruise delayed certainly isn't unique only to Carnival. I just returned from the Norwegian Gem today. I can guarantee you if you are comparing apple to apple regular balconies (not suites, family balcony, Haven/Courtyard) Carnival balcony cabins have more square footage. Food taste are way too subjective. Too many bars.....Please. The helmets of beer were everywhere on the NCL GEM. I don't know too many mass market cruise ships being built today that the focus isn't on bars and lounges. The NCL Gem was carrying nearly 1000 children and they were running wild all over. There were other things with the NCL Gem that weren't perfect either. Will it stop me from sailing NCL again? Certainly not. $2000 for a balcony cabin on a 7-day cruise isn't expensive it is a good deal.
If this was out of New Orleans, all ships were late leaving this weekend. I don't know why, but it is rumored that they cut back on the number of customs officers. I agree with Cruise Fanatic, being late could be caused by a number of reasons. The balconies are larger on Carnival ships. I don't know of any ships that have too many bars, and not all of them are open at once.
We have ordered food items and champagne on Carnival before. Because of regulations, they cannot deliver these items until the ship is so many miles at sea (similar to the same reasons they cannot open the casino or shops). We have always received our items the next day. I'm sure these items are on their way.
