Carnival Conquest question

Hello fellow cruisers!! My husband and I are leaving on our 7 day cruise in a couple of weeks on the Carnival Conquest. I am so disappointed in reading all of the negative reviews on this ship in the review section of this site. Are there any people out there that have good things to say about the Conquest? The overall rating was 1 1/2 stars I believe. Not very good at all! This has all made me a little nervous and wishing I had booked on Norwegian Spirit (been on her and she is fantastic) or Royal Caribbean (didn't even know they were sailing out of NO).

Also, what has folks experience been as far as weather in Western Caribbean for November? I'm getting a little anxious about this as well. I know it is hurricane season, but we have been the last week in October our last several cruises and have experienced beautiful weather, not too hot! Will someone out there please give me some encouraging news?! Thanks!!!

Don't get spooked by the negative reviews. People are more likely to post a review if they have an axe to grind, and it is usually some minor issue that they just can't let go of, and so they think they'll get even with the cruise line by posting a scathing review. I don't pay attention to them. I also don't pay attention to reviews that offer nothing but soaring praise, as though the cruise was a brief trip to Shangri-La. Now, if someone posts a balanced review that has both what was good as well as what was not-so-good, that is worth reading.

Conquest sails full each cruise. If it was as bad as some reviewers claim the word would get out and people wouldn't book it.

As for the weather...nobody knows. The best advice for cruising in hurricane season is don't get your heart set on visiting all the ports. Just be flexible and realize you might not see Cozumel, but instead will see Key West.

Thanks, Dave! I feel better already and I know you are right about folks posting when they are upset. I just needed to hear that. If I have a good time (which I anticipate I will) I will post a good review for them. I have been to Cozumel many times, so I wouldn't mind going to Key West instead. :) I would just hate to spend all that money and end up spending most of my time indoors. I love the sun and ocean breeze and that's one of the main reasons I love to cruise is to sit out by the pool and watch the ocean go by. I can't wait to be in that chair sipping on an umbrella drink!! :)

Our Moderator JimC was just on the CCL Conquest in August and had a great cruise. Like Dave said, When I read bad reviews I don't believe half of what I read and take the rest with a grain of salt.

Sorry Boneman.. I was busy this weekend our else I would have answered sooner. Cruise Fanatic is correct, we just sailed on the Conquest The first week of August. It was our second cruise on her (the first being in 2005 which we consider to have been our best cruise ever) and we had a wonderful time on both occasions.

Both the ship and crew are terrific and I unless you are going to be someone that gets uptight because you are sailing with Texans (the ship sails from Galveston, so a majority of the cruisers are from Texas) you will have a great time. Some do seem to be straight off the ranch, but in general, Texans are a very friendly bunch of people (at least until you treat them as inferior)

I don't know what negative things you have seen in the reviews but I assure you they are probably like Dave said, someone has a problem and therefore they look for some way to "stick it to Carnival"

Do you have anything in particular you were concerned with? If not, go with an only mind and don't sweat the small stuff and you will have a great cruise.

Oh my!! You about gave me a heart attack!! I booked this cruise thinking it was out of New Orleans and that is where my flight is taking me and when I read your post I thought that I had made a HUGE mistake!! Thank goodness I didn't and it is sailing out of New Orleans! LOL!!! Wow!! My heart is still beating fast!! Thanks for your reply though. We are looking very forward to our cruise!

I wrote a review of the Conquest on May 11th...around there....and had a blast on this ship! Best cruise so far! We cruised out of Galveston on the 7 day to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. You can read my review...just go to the "search" tool at the top and type in Conquest review and all related topics will be listed. Remember, most people who gripe the loudest have a bad attitude about lots of things and like to lash out....don't pay attention to most of it and have a great cruise.

Ha! I bet that shocked you! The Conquest is getting replaced in Galveston by the Magic next week and then she goes to NO to cruise from there (which is her original home port until Katrina hit, so now the Conquest is returning home.)

That is really exciting for Galveston, to have the Carnival Magic homeported there.

Not so sure

My parents are leaving on the Conquest today and have called already that the ship has been delayed, the food wasn't good, there is a funky smell, they forgot to put the anniversary cake and champagne in the room that we ordered and they are not happy so far. ...too many bars, room isnt great. We upgraded their room with a balcony and all and they said it was so-so. They loved the Norwegian so much better. I hope the rest of their week goes better then the first day. We paid $2,000 for this cruise and they could have sailed on a better cruiseline. Carnival...never again.
