Carnival splendor

Hi all,
Just trying to find out some info about Carnival lines vs Princess lines. Planning a family trip for next year with 8 year olds, and wondering if there is a major difference between the two lines? The ship that we're looking at going on is Carnival splendor.
Any comments on what the ship/line is like? Family friendly?
Want it to be a great time, as this is the first time we've been on a cruise, and probably won't be going again for a long time.

Carnival is probably the most family orientated main stream cruise line outside of Disney Cruises. Although Royal Caribbean Cruise lines is probably just as good as Carnival. Princess caters to an older crowd but they still offer a kids club and provide for families.

Splendor is a great ship and if you want to sail from California, probably your best bet for a relaxing family vacation as RCCL no longer sails from CA.
