Look at the Hesperia Metropol for a reasonably priced place that is more about location than high end hotel. However, I would not dismiss the pre-cruise hotel packages offered by Carnival since they can also cover your transfers. It looks like they have some nice hotels for their options. Pretty much all the hotels near the port or in the city have staff that speaks English.

We stayed at the Marriott airport and all though they are not close to Las Ramblas they offer free shuttles hourly and FREE airport pick up. There was a 10 dollar charge to the pier and the hotel is new and clean. We used points but the cost would of run about 131 a night. The next time we return I will be staying there again.

m1975a...Instead of a hotel I would recommend a Bed and Breakfast called Barcino 147. The hosts are multi-lingual...very accomodating and accessible. In the center of Barcelona only 4 blocks from the Placa Catalunya and located right on the Grand Via..it is near to everything and taxi's are always right outside the front door at any hour due to its location in the midst of all the Expensive Hotels!! Check it out on Trip Advisor. Send me a private Email I'll be glad to give you a lot more details!!

Important Barcelona Note: Use extreme caution when in the Las Ramblas Area and in the Metro Stations..Why..PICKPOCKETS!!!!! We met far too many fellow travelers...all with the same tail of woe! Dress Down in Barcelona, store Your passports safely, the pickpockets work in teams with motorcyclists waiting to dash off with your valuables!! Stay off Las Ramblas nearest the port at night. It is a great city but you need to exercise caution in your choice of accomodation! Consider staying in the L'Eixample neighborhood above all others!
