Carnival Triumph "Arrested" In Concordia Lawsuit Flap
I'm sorry this family lost a loved one on the Costa Concordia, but this is not the way to about getting compensation. Bloomberg News Report

Wow, that's crazy.

Totally crazy.

Carnival will need to post an Insurance bond to cover the amount of the claim until its liability is legally established and the damages are determined appropriate. Some Legal Beagle was sitting up late nights!! If it turns out that this paticular Texas jurisdiction is unique in its application of what is claimed to be Maritime Law.....Carnival should pull out of that port (Galveston) as this type of lawsuit will spawn copycats!!!

It is curious how a German family decided to file the lawsuit in Galveston of all places, and not in the more logical Miami or Genoa Italy. I wonder if their is something unique to ports on the Gulf Of Mexico?

They are not accomplishing anything other than adversely impacting people who had nothing to do with the Concordia accident, and also not gaining any sympathy from those in Galveston who will be called to sit on the jury.

It all seems very strange. Why the Triumph? The Carnival Magic is also in Galveston. I can't help but wonder how close they even were to this relative.

You would think the magistrate would have simply told Carnival they had X days to post a bond first, and then threatened to seize the ship if they did not do it. But then again, no verdict has been determined so why does Carnival have to do anything, just because a suit was filed? It isn't as though Carnival is going to flee like a fugitive, or is a debt risk.

In the comments below the article, somewhat stated that the story was wrong and that it was a hoax.

Any confirmation of this?

Dave 03-31-2012 01:26 PM

According to John Heald it is not a hoax. Passengers report that U.S. Marshals are on the ship although they haven't done anything other than post some signs saying the ship is under their control.

The lawsuit is real.

Wow, I wonder why the story hasn't made the major news outlets yet...this will be interesting to watch it play out!

Now that I am booked on the Elation again, I am a bit nervous about this. What if it happens again?
