I can't understand why everyone will not get a passport!!!! I hear on the news there are 900 passengers with no passport so that was a big issue if the ship was towed to Mexico. I am 60 and me and my family have always carry a passport. We even use it in Canada for ID at the bank or government offices. It make no sense. The passport is the number one bit of ID that can be use every where. We even got ones for our kids when they were young. Its worth every cent of the price for the piece of mind. Come on people, go and get a passport. I think it should be the law for these cruise ships to require everyone to have one before boarding, just like we have to have one.
wooddon, I agree. The U.S. government never should have put the loophole into the laws that allowed 'closed loop cruises' to be done with just a photo ID and birth certificate. Why bother with enforcing a passport law when you allow that kind of exception? It should be 'you travel outside the borders, no matter which way, you need a full passport'. Period.
No doubt about it. Don't leave the country without it. I've had a passport for going on 15 years and it has made my travels a whole lot easier. I'd bet if the Triumph would have gone to a Mexican Port - there would be 900 people getting a passport for their next cruise.
Carnival just announced they are canceling 12 more Triumph cruises, which makes the total 14. I imagine this is the result of the ongoing assessment of damages by the engineering staff on the ship.
Carnival just announced an additional $500 per person compensation to everyone on the Carnival Triumph. That in addition to full refund, future cruise credit, all transportation cost, and refund of all onboard purchases with exception of casino, art auction, or gift shop. I'd say Carnival has done pretty good stepping up on this misfortune this time.
I agree Carnival has compensated the passengers with what would be satisfactory to me. I heard on the news tonight they have 1,500 hotel rooms booked for tomorrow night in New Orleans, as well as 20 charter flights to Houston from Mobile, to get the passengers back home. After something like this, I know there will be a few who aren't satisfied, regardless of the compensation.

Reason: hotels are in New Orleans, not Mobile
