After 10 long months ashore (it was a looooong year) We finally managed to get some seaweed between Our toes on a wonderful 8 day venture to the Bahamas aboard the Carnival Splendor out of NYC!!! Some 22 months earlier We cruised aboard her in the Pacific...now she is cruising in Our Atlantic from New York , an easy and inexpensive (Yes We got the $1 fares R/T from Providence RI) Megabus ride for Us! No Car to Park (NYC is Expensive anywhere) ...just a short cab ride from the bus drop.
The Splendor is in excellent shape, the service, meals and entertainment was either very good or excellent....happily the Scrambled Eggs in the Buffet have become tasty and enjoyable. We complained about them on Our previous adventure. Carnival is offering a most enjoyable and affordable alternative to NYC cruising and she has a real plus for Winter cruising!!! She has a dome which is opened and closed as weather dictates over the Lido pool and hot tubs.....what this all means is that Youu have full benefit of the Lido Deck in any weather 24/7.......a big plus for New York sailings (Nobody else has an adjustable dome over their Pool decks for cold weather sailings out of NYC)
While the Splendor has had to forego the latest Carnival 2.0 upgrades due to the shuffling of repairs needed to the Triumph.......the Splendor remains a most comfortable and well kept vessel.....and the popcorn at the Movies on the Lido deck at night is a puuurfect touch!! WE must have enjoyed the ship...We booked a 16 day B2B aboard her for 2015!
So happy to hear about your wonderful time. It sure is nice to be able to get to the Pier without having to fly. Your cruise was a success and you booked another one YEAH ! I need to check out the Megabus and see if its available to us out of Chesapeake, that would be nice. The $35 a day parking at the Manhattan Pier adds up very fast ...ouch !
Merry Christmas to you and yours ! :OD
janfred....I know the Megabus leaves from Baltimore to NYC with relatively good frequency....also from Washington!!! We found the buses to be surprisingly comfy, and nicer than the Greyhound We rode recently.'Twas a really relaxing cruise for small change (Cat 4J) (Inside with a window and veranda access-[there are such cabins]) ..all in all a fun cruise despite the problems observed in Nassau!! (See My post in Port Chat). Merry Christmas to You and Yours!!
Must be nice to be near the Mega Bus lines to get to a port easily. Flying is such a big deal these days. Our next cruise we are experimenting with a very small airport in Worcester hoping it will cut down on the hassell. Worcester has only Jet Blue right now, 2 flights out per day. the main terminal is smaller than most strip malls. We shall see how it goes. We are really hoping the plane is full size HAHAHA
