Red face To Hawaii aboard the Miracle
Aloha Kane and Wahine, the rhythms of the Hawaiian Islands still pulse thru my heart and mind after cruising the Pacific aboard the Carnival Miracle for 16 days. The ships is quite seaworthy and handles itself well even in the high winds and sea We encountered. Hint: Cruise Midships, Lower decks)!!

Meals were absolutely great, the evenings special offerings, were not often repeated, The Seafood and the Steaks (Including Filet Mignon and New York Strip and Chateaubriand Were outstanding) and yes, there were 2 Lobster nights. Dinner in the Steakhouse did not offer a Filet Mignon that was substantially better than the MDR.......but the Seafood offerings were fabulous!!

Entertainment was very good but not spectacular...Carnival let Us down as there were only 3 stage productions....they were content to rely heavily on Legends (fellow cruiser) shows , game shows and Comedians (Punchline Comedy Club) to take up the slack...this was a big letdown. A 10 piece band did provide excellent music in many venues!!

Cabin Service was spectacular as was all of our contact with each and every member. We solved the problem of unfamiliar waiters/waitresses for My Time Dining by requesting Our favorites whenever We showed up to dine. We met many pleasant new friends and now find We prefer to dine this way over the older and more traditional form of fixed seating!! Delays occurred only twice and We never waited more than 5 minutes!!

Where Carnival was weakest lies in their failure to create any sort of a Polynesian Ambiance for the cruise. In this sense the Cruise Director and the Entertainment Staff fell flat on their faces. This cruise was no different from a cruise to the Caribbean, along the Pacific Coast, Thru the Canal or to the Bahamas. Yes, one night a Polynesian culture group came aboard in native costumes, beat the drums, made faces at Us and a narrator explained what they were doing...there was no sort of Polynesian music at any time or of any sort while aboard. There was an overabundance of music suitable for the 20-30 generation (The average age of passenger was in the late 50's/early 60's.

Carnival did provide a naturalist on board...she was excellent and for the full length of the cruise we had daily lectures and question and answer time with her regarding Polynesia, the Marine Life, The History, The flora and the Fauna!
Would We do this cruise again??? In a New York Minute!! On Carnival...Sure despite its shortcomings...It was a Truly great Cruise!! It must have been...while aboard We booked another for the Fall of 2015!!!!

Mahalo and Aloha,

Good points about the lack of atmosphere. Have you pointed this out to John Heald on his facebook page? If you not wish to, would you mind me copying some of what you wrote to him? So many people ask him for help on things that are not in his domain of control, but the CDs and entertainment staff ARE his gig. This should be pointed out to him.

Jim...Good Point, by all means pass this on to John Heald......The Hawaii cruise is a special type of cruise and the cruise director, who was very good , failed to develop the kind of ambiance necessary for such a long voyage.....more could be, should done.....Many cruisers disembarked voicing the same feelings!!
