We have had the far aft cabins on Ecstacy - sister ship to Fantasy - and we had no noise from engines - did not even hear any noise from the anchors. It was nice back there as only the folks that have cabins are back there so even the noise from the inconsiderates is minimal.
I've had an aft cabin on Riviera and loved it. We did have some minor noise and vibrations and described, but nothing that disturbed us. The halls are quiet because only a few will go down that deep.
For those worried about the anchors, the Fantasy and Ecstasy are in docked ports. No need to deploy the anchor(s). What you might hear is the bow and stern thrusters as the ship positions itself to the dock. (that is your wakeup call)
On the Elation, there are only bow thrusters as she can rotate the azipods at the stern.

Minor thread drift...I had forgotten about the Elation having azipods.
Now I am wondering if that was a big reason for moving Elation to Mobile, instead of doing a double move with the Fantasy? After all, why not simply move Elation to Charleston? The azipods make the ship more maneuverable which can be an issue at the Mobile cruise port.
Has mobile done anything to increase the size of the turning basin? Or since the Fantasy has been able to manage, did any plans for change get shelved? I would think that they would still want to make the basin larger so that they could support a larger ship and thus increase their future growth potential

A little drift here too. I can't say for sure, but I have a strong hunch it was because they wanted to present the Charleston market with a ship that had been through all of the Evolution drydocks.
If you notice the Elation and the Paradise both went through dry/wet docks in March and December respectively. Both did not receive the Waterworks, interconnecting cabins nor the Resort Style pool. Since both ships were on the Westcoast, that would leave me to believe the ship yard was not capable of doing the upgrades.
I also concur the reason for moving the Fantasy is that it could be better marketed as having all the bells and whistles. Mobile being an established port, would not need to be marketed as aggressively.
The turning basin is being built BUT it is a different basin that is further south of the terminal. It will have a 1500' turning radius vs the 1000' of the current basin. One option would be for the ship to travel the 1.5 miles in reverse which is doable.
Personally the Elation should have been sent to the drydock in Mobile after the repo and the upgrades finished before being sent to Charleston. This way there would not have to any interruption in the schedule. Her next drydock is not scheduled until 2012.
So basically there are a lot of disappointed people who are changing their bookings this upcoming summer as they either wanted the Waterworks or the inter-connecting cabins.
