From Gene Sloan's USA Today blog: Collision at Cozumel

Apparently is was a slow motion thing and while scrapped and dinged, the ships have moved out of port.

Wow glad everybody appears to be okay. I was just on the Enchantment last week.

Back in 1980 I was on a nuclear powered cruiser leaving the Norfolk Naval Station. Something happened and we scrapped along another ship as we left the dock. It damaged some support beams on the main deck and scrapped a lot of paint off. Very embarrassing. I was amazed that no officer lost his job. I think they blamed the tugboat crew. Anyway, I was on the main deck watching us leave and saw we were getting awfully close to the USS "Mooseburger" (Moosbrugger). Then I heard the scrapping of metal and the ship shook. That was about it.

Updated report

I'm sure glad no one was hurt!

It seems odd they would be this close, the Legend usually docks at the Puerta Maya Pier. All I can figure is the wind blew her into the Enchantment at the International Pier maybe. Again, I'm glad no one was hurt and it was minimal damage to both ships so they could proceed with the cruises.

Wind can move vessels of this size quicker than some realize. Can you imagine if it would have been the Oasis or the Dream? I suspect a lot more damage and possible injuries could have been incurred. They need to figure out what happened and put the precautions in place to prevent it from happening again. I see someone's insurance premiums going up.

Was it a female captain? Just kidding, y'all. I wouldn't be joking if anyone had been hurt. I agree, Dwayne, insurance premiums are going up. Even at slow speeds, that amount of mass meeting another huge amount of mass is going to do some damage. I am relieved no one was injured.

USA Today Update with photos

I'm quite impressed with the quoted passenger's ability to ascertain wind speed by eyeballing it. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_rolleyes.gif

It looks like the Legend did take a bruising going by the pictures. I bet that was a sail away party the guests will never forget. I still haven't figured out if the Enchantment was moored or in a pier slip going by the reports.
