Carnival has issued the following Travel Advisory at 6:00PM;

Port of Mobile Update April 30, 2010 - 6:00 PM

We are closely monitoring the situation with the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the potential impact to our operation in the Port of Mobile.

We will continue to monitor this situation over the weekend to assess if there will be any disruption to the Carnival Fantasy cruise departing on Monday, May 3. At this point in time, we are expecting the Port of Mobile to remain open and the cruise to operate normally.

Guests sailing on the May 3 cruise can check back here and we will provide an update if any new information becomes available. In the meantime, we are looking forward to welcoming our guests aboard the Carnival Fantasy on Monday.

Here is a direct link.

Now there are experts postulating that the spill could get caught in a flow that would take it out to the Atlantic coast along Miami and northward too. This is bad. Very bad.

I heard that on the news as well. I sure hope they can get it contained before that happens. I love the warm water and air the Gulf Stream brings, it can keep the oil though.

Welcome to cruise-chat.

I can't see this spill having as big an effect on the east coast of Florida as it will on the Gulf coast. That is a lot of distance to travel so I'd think it would spread out and not be as concentrated. I guess it depends on when they get it capped. I just read where BP hopes to have a dome installed in a few days. I wouldn't let it affect my decision to book a Miami cruise. In a worst case scenario, containment booms would be set with clear channels for shipping to use. It is more of a wetlands and fish/wildlife problem.

Thanks Dave,
Yes, the East should not be compromised. But I should do a tour of Florida. Going to the Keys and Marco Island, I hope not to find black sand beaches!

I have just returned from new orleans. I cruised on the Triumph, and then visited the area for 5 days. Thursday we drove down the bayou to the gulf. We saw the fishing vessels getting out one right after the other. We could smell the crude.
we arrived in new orleans last monday. they were talking about what they should do. Someone dropped the ball...they sat on this and sat on this. DO SOMETHING ANYTHING but they didnt.
we will suffer from this for a long time.
the bayou is so beautiful, it makes me sad to think what will happen.

Isn't John Heald doing a short stint on the Fantasy then, to bring the ship to Charleston and then leave? That'll be fun.
