The accused party will claim to have been served an excessive number of drinks after which he was unable to control his actions! He will probably then claim it was all the fault of the cruiseline since he was functioning under diminished capacity!!
Some aspects of the proposed law probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I just don't want them to go (overboard) with it to the point it infringes on the non-stupid people. The cruise lines will pass the costs along to us of course.
The cruise line ambulance chaser's are probably indeed eyeing new yachts down in Miami.
No doubt they will try to blame Carnival in some fashion for whatever happened on the Elation.
It's time for people to take responsibility for their own actions. There are some really simple rules that were laid down years ago. If we stuck to those, we wouldn't need all the flipping laws that are on the books today. Of course, then lawyers would be out of business.
The Elation murder was just that, a murder. Husband gets mad at wife and kills her. Now, of course, the lawyers will be going after Carnival. The husband was pulled off of the ship by the FBI and the body was taken from the morgue to have an autopsy performed. Murder and suicide are two very selfish crimes. Not the dignity suicides, but the ones that throw themselves off of a ship. Now, the ones that go due to stupidity, well, there's not much one can do to fix that. Even laws can't fix stupidity.
The solution would only bring up more problems... Which Shakesphere play has the line "...the first thing we do, is kill all the lawyers..."?

The problem lies in our mentality. We simply HAVE to have a reason WHY EVERYTHING HAPPENS!
It can't be ruled that it was a murder, or he didn't want to live anymore -hence suicide, we have to know why he/she was killed, or why he didn't want to live anymore. Everyone wants justification.
Look at our cars, automatic wipers, headlights, distance cruise control, anti-lock brakes, automatic everything dumbing the driver to complete bliss.
Look at Nancy Grace and all the garbage t.v. trying to tell us "WHY" this or that happened. I flew on Cathay Pacific Airlines last year to Tokyo and they had REAL knives with our meals, try that in America.
Why blame attorneys, they see a way to make a quick buck easily.
