well we new this was coming. they are having the laws changed for cruise ships that are in the U.S. because of these "fallen overboards"here is the link http://www.upi.com/Top_News/20.../UPI-67471247692089/. How much will this cost us in rates? because of a careless passenger
This link to Gene Sloan's USAToday article has more details. The cruise line lobbyists have rolled over on it, so it is done deal.
Note in the Arizona Republic article that the group who started this says they aren't done yet and will push for more rules. I'm serious when I say we'll be seeing totally caged-in balconies and promenades, and a 10 foot high fence along the top decks.
A certain muckracker's anti-cruising website is soon to have thousands more entries, because these new rules will require public logs of every little thing regardless of it's validity. Someone leaves their camera in a lounge and reports it as missing from their cabin - it goes in the log as a theft. Someone flirts with another passenger and they report it as sexual harassment.
Get ready for a much more pronounced security presence during your cruises.
Maybe we'll have bed checks and morning roll calls too.
this is getting really stupid because of the stupid idiots {thats what they are, sorry}doing something stupid,to fall to there deaths,we all have to pay. Glass windows 15ft high all around the ship.next will be background checks on all passengers? as stupid as this government is now, would surprise me.
Some things in the law are fine - peepholes and door chains for example. The logging requirements are onerous though. Any allegation, regardless of it's validity, will have to be reported. And so the malcontent in Canada will have a field day on his cruise-bashing website. The trial lawyers are already pricing new yachts. And we are the ones who will foot the bill for the added fees.
lawyers will have a their own offices on the ship.. this all has to stop.. whats next? things happen in transportation of humans. some need thier hands held and monitored, but mojority not.. these are stupid and will be costly changes, when human comon sense should be your guide. DONT LEAN OVER THE RAIL!! or stand on it.. remember what foresr gump said,Stupid is what stupid does.. if you cant control yourself and be this stupid, either take your mommy or stay the crap home with the rest of the children.. the security part of the new law i can understand, but the stopping of people falling off a ship, blame the floating corpse
What else can they add to the regulations? How about gambling addiction counseling? Maybe require all embarking passengers to have a statement from a psychiatrist certifying the person is not suicidal? Maybe after so many drinks appear on your tab you will be forced to attend the next Friends Of Bill meeting?
Perhaps a deployable catch fence that will ring the ship to catch all the jumpers and idiots?
hey dave.. they will have a sun zar.. makung everyone put on SPF 52 so we dont get burn. and if you dont put it on you are fined, and then sent to a skin cancer seminar you know we cant be responsible for our own actions.. we are all idiots
And as you guys discuss this, i see a news report that the Elation is being held in port without debarkation pending a death on board....possibly a murder...
