Maybe it's the upstate NY redneck in me, but I'd be happy if they had big tubs filled with cans of soda and beer on ice for free, and then have a bar for discounted mixed drinks and wine.
Now Dave you know that would never work. I can just see one person walking up and taking six beers at once. The same reason they don't have open bar on cruises-to-nowhere anymore. My first 1nt CTN on the Fascination in 1999 was open bar. The bars were swarmed with people and you waited forever in line to get a drink.
Yes, the tub of cold beer would work for me too, but Jan is spot on... the tub would always be empty because of idiots taking 12 at once and taking them back to their cabins for storage... rinse and repeat... They would have to have servers handing them out...

I would imagine, if it goes over well on Carnival, it will go fleet wide. Did they still introduce the staff in the "Meet and Greet"? Did they do it twice for the different seatings? Did they still have a past cruisers thank you?
I honestly can say I don't remember the traditional calling out of the officers onto the stage thing. But I may not have gone to that nights show. I skipped a couple of shows on this cruise. The thing about the new way they do the Captains "meet and greet" is that you can meet more than just the captain. All the officers were mingling about on the promenade deck, so you could talk to any of them instead of being limited to the Captain, 1st officer, CD that used to attend the captain's party.

On a recent Carnival voyage, we attended the "meet and greet". I tipped a 10 after the first round of drinks and those were the last that I paid for through the duration of the event. I am not saying that this would work again but it saved me a bundle that time.
