These will replace the traditional Captain's Reception and are now Fleet wide.
The "Meet and Greet" will take place on the 1st cruise elegant night on the cruise. It will be held along the Promenade Deck from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Live music and dancing will be all along the Promenade and lounges. Cocktail's will be available for $1.00 off the regular price. The Captain will introduce the Senior Officers before both Production Shows.
The “Fun Farewell” will take place at the end of the cruise. Complimentary cocktails will be offered from 5:00pm-6:00pm.
Sounds like another of the fine old time cruise traditions bites the dust. I remember my first cruise in 1981. It was such an honor to be introduced to the Captain and then have your picture taken with him.
I gather it's fleet wide with the Carnival ships, not the entire Carnival PCL group? At least I hope not. I still am thrilled to meet the captain and get my picture taken with him. Cruise Fanatic, it's one tradition that I truly look forward to. My hubby, not so much, but I think that's mainly because he has to get dressed up
Its a good concept. The Captain's party thing was getting too crowded on the bigger ships. You basically were rushed through the handshake line, sat int he lounge and listened to music and had a couple of different free drinks to choose from. The meet and greet is a better atmosphere for mingling and you can be a bit late and not miss much. I think they should do a bit better than $1 off drinks though. They should price them so that its a break even for them. I don't need "free" drinks but I think a $2 drink would be much better received as a change.
We didn't make it to the Valor's "farewell" party. Too much going on at that time.

Penny, Just Carnival as far I know. They've been testing it out for over 3 months on certain ships, and adding others as they went along.
Linda and Jim, Thanks for your comments. I was wondering how it was playing to veteran cruisers. Jim, I think the $2 range for drinks would be better. Then again, they did add the "Fun Farewell" with free drinks.
Well Dwayne enjoy the new "meet and greet", I see you leave in 10 days Smile Have a great trip, where are you going?
Thanks Cindy, Just going to the Bahamas this time. I say "just" because I've been so many times. This will be my first visit to Half Moon Cay though, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Maybe it's the upstate NY redneck in me, but I'd be happy if they had big tubs filled with cans of soda and beer on ice for free, and then have a bar for discounted mixed drinks and wine.
