In November of 2009 I'll be going on my 3rd cruise (second one with Carnival). I have read some negative reviews on the Carnival Destiny ship, so I'm a little curious as to whether things have improved since then. In 2007 I went on a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise on Carnival Legend and had a great time. I found the quality/variety of food much better on Carnival (as compared to Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Sea). Stateroom was larger on the Carnival ship also.
Also, I'm going to Grand Caymans & Ocho Rios on this trip--been to both locales previously and wondered what other season travelers recommend (other than Sting Ray City and Dunn River Falls). Thanks!
I went on the Legend western in 2007 too and loved it, other than the rain on Roatan. But, you can't control the weather. On Grand Cayman you could go to Seven Mile Beach, it is beautiful. I've only been to the Falls at Ocho.
Hi pianog75, welcome to Cruise-Chat. I can't help with the ship because I haven't had the privilege of sailing on her. But, usually, the negative reviews are the only things you ever read. Very rarely do people take the time to write positive reviews. I'm sure there are others on the board that have sailed on her, so hopefully they will see your post. Grand Cayman is great for snorkeling, and 7 mile beach is one of my favorite beaches. We did a couple of snorkels in Ocho Rios, too, but it wasn't that good. Maybe you could find a good all-inclusive like a Sandals or something similar that will sell day passes. We did a Fern Valley (or something like that) tour as well in Ocho Rios. A long time ago, they had a rum factory excursion, not sure if they still offer that one or not. I've only sailed on 4 Carnival ships, but have never had a bad experience. I'm sure the Destiny will be no exception. Best wishes, and once again, welcome aboard!
I too read all of the neg comments about the Destiny, well I just got off her last week and let me tell you we had the time of our lives, She may be an older ship but she's in great shape and the food and service was the BEST!!! In Grand Cayman we went to the seven mile beach and it was beautiful, in Jamaica we did the Bamboo Beach Club, but if you are not a drinker and do not like to party stay away, all I can say is we had a blast unlimited food and rum punch, red strip etc etc. Now the food was not that great but after a few rum punches and some red stripes believe me you won't care one bit What I'm trying to say is go on book the Destiny she's a great ship!!!
