I am happy to report that let Jim off the hook.

We had a BLAST on the Valor. This was one of our best cruises EVER!!!

Gary (CD) recognized DJ for his 32 cruises.
I got to be Sonny in the Legend's Show.
Karaoke ROCKED...ROCKED...ROCKED.
A good friend of mine PHAT KAT was one of the comedians.
Play That (the Phillipino cover band) made me an official member of their band.

IT WAS GREAT!!!!!

I did not get to sing with Jim...but we did get to meet up and I have to say....he is DEFINATELY someone you want to cruise with.

I did not want to leave!!!!

Welcome back, LHP I'm really disappointed that you didn't get Jim to sing, but very glad to hear you had a great cruise!

I told you I wouldn't sing! Beleive me, you don't wished to be punished like that. I couldn't carry a tune with a bucket. But I agree with Linda that it was a fantastic cruise. I did sneak into Karaoke a couple of times to listen to Linda and the others sing. I even was able to enjoy hearing Linda sing when they had Karaoke at the Casino bar without having to leave a winning table in the casino!

I thought Gary was doing a great job for his first run at cruise director. The only disappointing thing was the piano bar. Not that the player was bad, in fact he did quite well at playing and singing the requests, but the wife and I like to be more involved and have sing alongs and other such audience participation which he did not do. We only went the first 2 nights and then gave up.

Linda it was great meeting you. You seemed to be a big celebrity on board as you were mentioned several times. I hope to be able to cruise with you again!

Welcome back Jim and Linda!!

I'm so happy y'all had a great cruise!

I had a hunch you would. Congrats to DJ on 32 cruises! Yep, I'd love to cruise with both of you some time. We have been chatting for so many years now.

Jim, I wouldn't have sang either. I was sure looking forward to the Youtube though!

I have to agree with you about the Piano Bar. I had been forewarned that Larry did not have much energy ...

I got the opportunity to talk with him and he seemed to be nice enough. (and as you said...technically talented) But he lacked the "it" factor that many of Carnival piano bar entertainers are known for.

I know what you mean about all the "name dropping". I don't know WHAT was up with that.

Phat Kat (Christopher Watts) is a friend of ours. I had no clue he was going to go with the "queen of cruising theme"....he has never done that before.

This was our 5th sailing with Gary.....so he knows us as well.

Kim (karaoke host) is a Facebook friend of mine. Even though we have only sailed together once before....we have a mutual friend that I have sailed with many times...so we keep in touch year round. Kim got to eat in the main dining room with us one night.

Here is the obvious reason I don't think its a good idea for me to do any singing. I'm afraid I'd end up being tossed overboard...

Also a note of apology...to anyone in the casino who heard me sing the Journey song..."Don't Stop Believin" .....

A) I did not know a guy was going to come up and sing it 3 songs after me....or I would have sung another song. I HATE when songs are repeated.

B) Kim did not have a monitor at that location and a monitor is KEY on that song because of the vocal difficulty. So sorry ...hubby said I was sharp in 4 places. If I had the monitor...I would have caught it the first time and corrected before that note came up again.

No apology needed.. if anything the guy who sung it after you should have chosen another song.

And I can't really talk because I won't sing, but there were one or two people who sung when it was in the casino bar that should not have. I saw people (including me) cringe during a couple of songs. I would hope that if I ever thought I could sing and sounded like that, my family or friends would be kind enough to set me straight.

There was a young woman named Lauren on our Grandeur cruise in June. Her whole family were talented singers but she was really something. It really made karaoke something to look forward to. She blew everyone away with "At Last" - really, she could have been on stage for a production show. Anyway, another woman (who heard Lauren) did the same song the next night and she should have known it was a bad idea.

The music was so loud in the casino that hearing the vocals was difficult (as far as pitch is concerned). In situations like that, the monitor feeds the vocals back at you ...so you can hear yourself.

There were not any monitors in karaoke either BUT the music in there was not as loud since there is a larger area for the sound to be absorbed into.

In fact on one song (Gunpowder and Lead) in the Eagles Lounge...I could not even hear the music. Kim had left the controls and I don't knwo if he "kicked" the control or what...

again....it is hard to stay on pitch (and timing) when you can't hear the music.
