I just cruised on the NCL Jewel for nearly $300.00 less for the two of us than Carnival wanted for the Valor. Exact itineray except for the private island.I took the savings and started with a new cruise line and a new ship to us.

We did a NCL last feb 209,and although i paid $299.00ppr then,we did not like NCL. I do have a 7 day booked with carnival this nov at $339.00ppr for a porthole room.We enjoy carnival ALOT better.

We felt they were about equal. The entertainment was alot better on NCL.But I do like the food better on Carnival. The mdr service is also better on Carnival. The embarkation and debarkation were much smoother on NCL. One problem we have is were platinum with Carnival and that is hard to give up. I am going to go by price for now until one of them really earns my loyalty.

The price of tickets we purchased two weeks ago for a cruise in October has already gone up $150 per person and that was before the 2/24 date the Carnival link posted. I am glad we booked when we did or we'd be $300 poorer. Glad for me, but sorry for those who haven't booked yet.

I believe alot of the prices that go up is the fact that the ship is filling up for that paticular week.. I have seen them go up and a month later go down a little.. My advice is BOOK now while you can. Carnival seems not to have problems filling up their ships.

I received a similar email this morning as well. The prices fluctuate between weeks and with individual ships and itineraries based on capacity sold by a certain time. This will be a "General" price increase effective March 22nd. for June, July, and August sailings.

The rates have been unbelievably low for so long now. With more demand finally returning this is to be expected. They don't usually announce rate increases with such a wide spread media and email blitz though. They are probably testing the waters so to speak, or making a marketing effort to drive bookings.

Here is a link to a WSJ article.

Thanks Tim C, for posting this. You beat me to it.

Good article. I tend to believe that they are doing this to boost bookings.. Think of all those people who are getting tax refunds right now. They can put thier deposits down with it.. And remember summer is expensive anyway.

That was how I interpreted it Tim.... the oldest sales ploy in the book.. "BUY NOW THIS PRICE IS NOT GOING TO BE AVAILABLE TOMORROW!"

What better way would there be to get the fence sitters to act then to threaten them with higher prices if they don't book now.

Of course what Dwayne has said is true too, prices have been artificially low for the last year or two, but I don't see things getting so good in the economy that all the ships are going to be booked full in the next couple of months.
