It may have been there for a while but I was just looking at Carnival's list (quite lengthy) of allowed and prohibited items. They finally give a definition of "small quantity" for soft drinks or bottled water.

"Non-alcoholic beverages: a small quantity (package of 12 per person) in original sealed, unopened bottles or cans: Permitted - Must be in carry-on luggage."

Hmmm 12 "liter" bottles then? That's plenty for me...

Just joking... that restriction seems reasonable. I am sure they are not too militant about enforcing this amount but it gives them recourse when someone wants to bring several cases of soda on board..

I also like the "in carry-on luggage" part. That way the poor luggage handles don't have to lift 100 lb suitcases full of water and soda... if you want to carry it on, then you lift it..

Yes, they changed the layout of the FAQ and added some more in depth information.

I think I have seen the 12 language before somewhere. Sounds reasonable to me. I'm pretty sure the emphasis for carry-ons is because they are screening the luggage for no-no's. I doubt they'll be overly strict about it. But who wants to lug a 12 pack of soda aboard? I do well to carry my gallon of spring water along with a few 16oz caffeine free Diet Pepsi's and wine in my backpack.
