We were just wondering why the port of Dominica was removed from the 7 day Southern Caribbean Cruise effective Nov./2010. We received a notice today stating this.

Really!? That was one of my favorite stops. That is disappointing.

That is a shame, it's a beautiful island. Maybe some unrest? Is it for all the cruises or just yours?

Well I just received my email too saying that Dominica is out.

Main problem is that Dominica is one of the few island that was part of the old itinerary from carnival Destiny so many people, have visited this island my guess is nothing wrong with them this island is beautiful maybe this is just that they need to change the itinerary every now and then and since st Martin is more expensive maybe this is just a monetary thing.

my opinion

I have visited Dominica 5 times since my honeymoon and there is not much to do in the island just the river falls and maybe the whale encounters so In my case I prefer a "Fun Day at ship"

Also, someone in the chat, posted that they were planning to change this itinerary and that probably two of the islands, will be change by others. I really have a feeling that at the end, the will add Aruba to the mix, because the prices have not change. Normally if they change an island for a "day at sea" they usually drop a little their prices so
why they keep it in the same price??
I will be watching this itinerary because I really like to go back to Aruba who knows...
But what I know is that Carnival have never let me down so

CARNIVAL SURPRISE ME!!!

I'm pretty disappointed about this as well. I first heard of it several days ago. I've read some articles quoting Carnival as saying it was to save fuel costs. You'll have to search for them. I haven't seen anything officially from Carnival saying that yet so I take them for what they are worth.

There is no doubt in my mind that a day at sea generates more on board revenue in this particular case. That is just my personal opinion.

I'm also disappointed in Carnival waiting to a Holiday weekend to send the notices out. Read the second item HERE and you'll see why.

I've been accused of being a Carnival "Cheerleader" a few times. Which is ridiculous as I am often the first one to call them out about issues. I'm not "cheering" about this.

I don't really care much for the change, but for what I really care is for Dominica, ok ok I told I prefer a "day at sea" but they (dominica) don't have a strong economy, this hit is going to affect the very nature of the island. I can tell you this: from all the islands I have visited in the caribbean Dominica is the poorer Island. So my guess this is going to affect very bad their tourist industry. But like I say what I'll really like is to see Aruba again in the itinerary...I have nothing against Dominica.

I have only been there once. Wasn't to impressed with the aggressive nature of the locals.

David and Josh did a ship excursion snorkeling and really liked it.

DJ and I got off the ship...walked (past the ring of armed guards keeping the vendors away from the gate) and milled around the straw market for awhile. At first, the vendors got aggressive but I just gave them my "touch me one more time and you will see Jesus" face...and they backed off.

I loved Dominica the times I've cruised there. Granted I didn't do much walking around in the pier area as I always had excursions. It is a very poor, but beautiful island. The champagne reef is amazing.

Why not make Cuba a stop???? We go to Cuba every year and it's wonderful.
