I have been reading the posts regarding the redemption of points? What exactly are the points spoken of and how does one get them?

Thanks

They are Fun Points, formerly known as Sea Miles, and something else before that. It is Carnival's Rewards program through their affiliation with Barclay Bank's credit card.

Look Here for more details.

It has been a sore spot for me concerning them until recently. I've spent nearly 15 years accumulating points and had never used any of them. Mainly, because prior to this new program you had to book through their designated agent to use them. The rates they had were higher than the rates I qualified for without using any points. So they were basically useless to me.

Now with this new program I can book with who I want and with what rate is best for me and use the points for credit card balance credit, on board gifts, and OBC's. I recently used some of my points for an on board credit of $200 on my upcoming cruise.

I get double points for Carnival purchases, so I charge my cruise deposit and payments to the card and then pay it to accumulate points. I also use it to secure my Sail & Sign account and then pay it after. I got carried away with that once though. Hence why I keep my casino playing money separate now. Hey, they shouldn't have given me a $10,000 credit limit!

I am not thrilled with Barclay's interest rates either. So I make sure now to have the funds to pay it when the the bill comes.

Hi Dwayne
Thank you for the explanation. Unfortunately for us Canadians the MasterCard is only available for the fine people of the USA!!

That's is not fair that only US people get to use the cruise lines credit cards. This is the same for all cruise lines. I have written to every cruise line asking why this is and they reply that the banks they deal with only allow US people to sign up. This is not true as I have almost every major department stores Master cards and Visa cards and they are thru the same banks. Does not make sense.

Woodon,
The cruiselines agreements that they make with the banks must have a stipulation on the currency of the card.

All the department stores currency is always in US funds. I have J.C. PENNY, MACY, TARGET to name a few and they are issue by the US banks, so there is no reason why the cruise lines does not do it as well. I think they just do not want to do it.

I think I read something about the reason having to do with consumer credit laws in Canada when it comes to the rewards programs. The card issuers would have to style the rewards programs to comply with Canadian law and they don't see adequate profit motive to do so.

Don't waste your time getting one of these cards. I had one & when I wanted to cash in my points for a 200.00 OBC they closed my account & took all my points away; it was almost as if they knew I was looking at what I could cash them in for & they beat me to it. When I called them they could re-open the account but would not reinstate any of the points that I spent thousands trying to get. I let them know that I was not happy with them & would spread the word to everyone that even thought about getting one of these cards. This also happend to another girl that I work with.

I had no problem getting mine applied to my booking. I got $200 in OBC's the next business day showing on my booking for 20,000 points.
