I love it when I can drive to the pier. The realities of the savings...parking at HSV is $7 a day, it is rare that the three of us can fly anywhere for under $1000, airport food pricing, tips to the skycaps, TSA hassles, etc. Sure, I have to find parking at the port but I am sure hotel "cruise/park" deals might become more popular in both Mobile and Charleston.
I went to an event in June sponsored by the Mobile CVB. They have a brochure out with cruise packages that list about 13 different hotels. Hilton Garden, Homewood Suites, Microtel, Holiday Inn, Marriott, to name a few.
Obviously the market in southern California wasn't meeting Carnival's expectations. Look at the recently announced "cougar" cruise they are chartering on the Elation for example.

Well it was fun while it lasted. Any cruise I can get on that has good air out of Toronto (not likely) or Buffalo (much cheaper) is good enough for me
Yay! About time too.
Finally a cruise from a port that I can drive to (Charleston) and also plan on staying a couple of days there. We are already looking at Fantasy to HMC,Grand Turk and Nassau and Three days at sea in July 2010
Hey everyone, I realize there are some folks not exactly thrilled with this move. Especially those on the West Coast, and those that were booked on the Fantasy thinking they were getting an "Evolutionized" ship, and now it is changed.
Heck, I would have been just as happy if they would have moved the Holiday here. I am just happy to finally get a year round ship for Charleston. Don't let my exuberance about this move influence any comments.
