Just read out here that Mobile, AL has a dry docking policy while in port of AL before setting sail? Please someone tell me if this is true or not. Does this mean no drinks till we hit international waters? I so look forward to that first "Drink of the Day" when I board, it means that my cruise has started & I am on Vacation.

What it means is any alcohol ordered through Carnival for stateroom delivery is held until in international waters, and the bar menu is limited until you reach the Gulf. They will still have the DOD, beer, cocktails, wine, but only brands and drink sizes allowed by the Alabama ABC Board. You also have to pay Alabama sales tax.

Alabama is broke, so they have to gain revenue wherever they can

It isn't too bad, you're out in international waters quickly, so you're only paying tax while you enjoy a few in port.

It is not just Mobile that charges state tax while the ship is docked. Many ports are doing this now.

You get a hit in Port Canaveral too. I don't know what portion is state and what is local. My friends ordered a bucket o' beers (16oz Buds) and bout fainted when they saw the bill.

Texas also has some restrictions on cruises leaving from Galveston.
