It really isn't bad at all. Sure, I missed the formality of the Captain's Reception on the last cruise, but this gave me two events to attend. I'm not going to complain much about cut backs while they still have Lobster for dinner and Room Service included at all hours.
I agree, I'd rather have an affordable cruise on a Fun Ship.
I really don't miss the midnight grand buffet. It seemed like such a waste of food. It was beautiful to see it. The artistry of the chef's is unquestionable. But, most people took a bunch of food and did not eat it all. So much of it was wasted...

and dont forget steaks every nite at dinner if you want it.. if i remember RCCL charges now for thier steak at dinner.. so yes it does not bother us either
I know it is all about profits, and Carnival does have to make money to stay afloat. But I really do miss the elegance and the tradition of cruiseing. It seems as if one tradition after another is going away. Viet
There are some "traditions" that are disappearing even though they are not about cost cutting-
Formal nights. I enjoyed the elegance of the evening when everyone was dressed in their best... Its a sad statement when people feel to put out when they are asked to at least wear a jacket for dinner.

I blame a lot of this on the "baggage fees"being imposed upon the air travelers!!! Formal gear adds weight and baggage- Then the air carrier lays on the fee....These are not the best of economic times and all are pinching their pennies!!
you are correct! we have stoped doing formal nite because of these baggage fees.. we take 1 check bag and 2 carryons. We are not paying a extra $30.00-$40.00 a bag so we can dress up formal nite. We have done plenty of them anyway..
We are lucky as we do not pay for luggage when flying on Air Canada or Westjet. We are allow two free bags, but only one carry on, so we still bring our suits and dressess for formal nights. I do not think it's the luggage fees, as we saw a decrease in how people dress before this happen. It's the young people, they do not want to get dress up, not like old days when we were young.
Shame on Carnival. Talk about getting stingy. I was on RCCL Independence last month and they still have the Captain's Cocktail Party on the Promenade and there were free drinks to go around. We were all dressed up and it was a wonderful night. I love getting dressed up for an "evening on the town ship". Some traditions they should just leave alone. Now RCCL still has the Past Cruisers Cocktail Reception with drinks and appetizers. If that goes, people will really object I do believe. We all like to get something for nothing. Ha Ha.
