Joe Farcus gives his reasoning and explains the decor of the Carnival Freedom in this video. I'm glad he did as it can be a bit confusing going through the centuries. Warning the video is long.

Freedom is a truly wonderful ship. We sailed this past May on her and the details are amazing. Mr. Farcus is spot on with what he hoped to accomplish with his design. Each public room has a distinct vibe of being a vacation within a vacation.
