I was a bit surprised with the name choice. Here's some more information;

source: Carnival Cruise Lines

"We are excited to announce that the Carnival Breeze has been selected as the name for our brand-new ship which will join the fleet in spring 2012.

The 3,690-passenger cruise ship will be constructed by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the current builder of our gorgeous Carnival Magic (debuting in Europe May 1, 2011!)

As the third ship in the Dream-class, guests can expect all the amenities on the Carnival Breeze that they've come to love on the Carnival Dream. Features include expansive, modern facilities for children and teens, a 23,750-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa, and The Lanai, an outdoor promenade featuring cantilevered whirlpools that extend over the ship's sides.

Other features will include the popular WaterWorks aqua park with a 300-foot-long corkscrew water slide, and a stunning indoor/outdoor café and live entertainment venue called Ocean Plaza. Of course, Carnival will offer a wide range of staterooms to match your clients' tastes and budgets, including deluxe ocean views with two-bathrooms and some family-friendly accommodations that feature five berths.

Carnival Breeze will be the 24th vessel in Carnival Cruise Lines' fleet, which operates three- to 15-day voyages to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada, New England and Europe.

We're proud to be able to offer guests such a variety of cruise options, ships and itineraries. Stay tuned for updates on the Carnival Breeze as it is being built!"

I will post a news link a little later. The site is currently down for updates.

The link says the Breeze will do among other things the Panama Canal.

The ship design looks like they combined the Conquest and Spirit Classes togeter, but is it a Panamax design? If it has the exterior dimensions of the Conquest, how is it going to fit in the Canal?

The link says the Carnival fleet does cruises to the Panama Canal, not specifically the Carnival Breeze. For the past few years this has actually meant they had a few cruises which stopped at Colon and passengers could visit the Canal Zone for tours. The Dream class ships are too big for the current locks.

I am still stumped by the name choice. It is a departure from what has been pretty consistent. Well, until the Dream class I guess. I am going to have to write another story using all of the Carnival ship names. I left one out the last time.

It sounds like a cocktail. "Bartender, I'll have a Carnival Breeze. Can I get that in a souvenir glass?"

I really don't either. At least it wasn't the Wonder. It does sound like a DOD.

At least they didn't call it the Carnival Wind. If they did, then John Heald would be the perfect cruise director for the launch as he always has wind....
